WEP TRAINS WOMEN’S ORGANIZATIONS ON ENVIRONMENTAL ADVOCACY

Women Environmental Programme (WEP) organized a Capacity Building Workshop for Women’s Organizations on Environmental Advocacy at Brooksville Hotel, Lokogoma, Abuja on 19th and 20th June 2019. This two-day training is an activity on the project “Call to Action on Gender Mainstreaming in Climate Change Actions in Nigeria.” It is supported by Both ENDS under its Global Alliance for Green and Gender Action (GAGGA) program.

The workshop had stakeholders drawn across the six (6) geo-political zones in Nigeria to discuss how best to mainstream gender in climate change interventions. Participants advocated for inclusion of women concerns in climate change actions across different sectors in the country.

Representatives from the Federal Ministries of Environment, Water Resources, Agriculture, Education, and Women Affairs & Social Development were also in attendance. It afforded an avenue for Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to seek clarifications on government policies and their implementation status. They also discussed about liaising with government in the planning and implementation of climate change related actions as it affects women and the physically challenged.

A notable outcome of the training is the formation of a movement for environmental and climate justice advocacy in Nigeria.
