WEP HOLDS HIGH LEVEL STAKEHOLDERS DIALOGUE ON PREVENTING VIOLENT EXTREMISM (PVE) IN BENUE STATE

 

Women Environmental Programme (WEP) on Friday 30th August, 2019 under her Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) funded PVE project, Connecting Women and Youth in Violent Extremist Prone areas through Empowerment and Skill Acquisition Phase II hosted high level stakeholders in Benue State to a dialogue session to entrench dialogue and the search for practical solutions towards achieving a Peaceful Benue and Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE) in the state. The purpose of the stakeholder dialogue was to motivate stakeholders to work towards a common vision, understanding, and proffer solutions to the problems of violent confrontations between communities and violent extremism in Benue state.

The meeting had in attendance high level stakeholders drawn from top government officials, heads of religious organizations, leaders of youth groups, senior officers of security agencies as well as civil society organizations. Discussions focused on the roles various stakeholders in the state can play in addressing the vulnerability of young people within the state to been recruited into violent extremism as well as the structural, policy and legislative steps the government can take towards effectively tackling issues of violent confrontations between communities and violent extremism in Benue State. The dialogue session is one in a series of such engagements that will be held under the project to push for a paradigm shift towards finding lasting solutions to the violence in the state and prevent violent extremism.
