WOMEN ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAMME COLLABORATES WITH FEDERAL MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT LAUNCH NATIONAL ACTION PLAN ON GENDER AND CLIMATE CHANGE

The Women Environmental Programme a leading development organization in Africa has once again set a milestone in its quest to mitigate effects of climate change in Nigeria.crClimate change is one of the most dreaded natural disasters plaguing different continents as of today and requires the involvement of all stakeholders’ commitment to change the tide.

In view of this, Women Environmental Programme believes that for a meaningful change to be achieved, there has to be a holistic involvement of key actors and relevant stakeholders to drive the plan.

According to the director of  the organization, most often when such sensitive discussions are been carried out certain relevant groups in our communities who are directly impacted are left out making such forums less balanced, this is one the reasons Women Environmental Programme has taken this noble path of mainstreaming the processes involving all stakeholders.Speaking at the sensitization workshop organized by the Women Environmental Programme, the minister of environment applauded the its partner organization for initiating the sensitive project, according to him ‘’this event couldn’t have come at a better time than now that the surging climate change has led to gross desertification further straining the fragile relationship between farmers and herders who are in constant search for greener pastures to feed their cattle, we hope to see the relationship between the federal government of Nigeria and Women Environmental Programme blossom further in order to yield robust results to the benefit of the good people of Nigeria”.Recall President Mohammadu Buhari had earlier signed the national action plan into law to clear legal and constitutional bottlenecks limiting the required drastic measures necessary to curtail this emerging human threat.
