WEP TRAINS COMMUNITIES ON NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH AND COMMUNITY POLICING

Bringing law enforcement authorities and the public together to identify and address crime is paramount in the prevention of crime and violence in communities. This relationship between officers and locals has been fostered by Women Environmental Programme (WEP) through workshops on Community Policing and Neighbourhood Watch Best Practices. These trainings which involved community members and security agents across six (6) Local Government Areas of Benue State are part of activities under WEP’s PVE intervention funded by the Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) in the state.

The trainings are aimed at strengthening the capacities of communities to collaborate with security agencies through their security structures to address their security challenges, and also patrol regularly and engage with residents and strangers alike, instead of responding to crime only when it occurs thus entrenching community policing. Participants have been equipped with knowledge requisite for aiding investigation, reporting crime and the formation watch groups with maximum respect for human rights. The benefiting Local Government Areas are Ado, Agatu, Buruku, Guma, Kwande and Logo.
