WEP ADVOCATES FOR PASSAGE OF PROPOSED BENUE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION BILL
As part of efforts to promote peace building and strengthen state systems and structures towards engaging and empowering youths effectively, Women Environmental Programme (WEP) with support from Global Community Engagement and Resilience Fund (GCERF) held advocacy meetings with relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to solicit support for the passage of a bill to establish a Youth Development Commission in Benue State.
Stakeholders visited gave similar assurances while commending the initiative to establish a Benue Youth Development Commission and pledged their support towards ensuring smooth passage of the bill.
Among heads of MDAs visited are: Benue State Planning Commission, Ministry of Information & Culture, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Energy, Science & Technology, as well as civil society networks, student leaders and the leadership of the Benue State Youth Parliament.
This activity is part of the organization’s PVE project which is being implemented under a consortium arrangement titled: “Connecting Women and Youth In Violent Extremist Prone Areas through Empowerment and Skills Acquisition In Benue State”. The various interventions of the project seek to strengthen the security consciousness and structures of the communities, facilitate resolution of disputes within and between communities, raise awareness against violent extremism, and enhance the skills of women and youth for improved livelihoods in order to reduce their vulnerability to recruitment and radicalization to Violent Extremism.
