Terms of Reference for Video Documentary Showcasing The Impacts Of Climate Change On Vulnerable Populations And Communities In Nigeria

 

  1. Introduction

Women Environmental Programme is being supported by Christian Aid to implement a project titled: “Sustainable Action for a Green Planet (SAGP).” SAGP is a Christian Aid’s global climate change project with a goal to ensure that the population of locals are resilient to the impacts of climate change in the target regions of Africa, Asia, Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. WEP is the Principal Partner responsible for the implementation of this project.

SAGP has three work streams: short term advocacy for the 27th session of the Conference of Parties (COP27) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); long term national and global advocacy; and community resilience.

The objectives of the project are:

  • To galvanize existing climate change advocacy platforms in Africa, Asia, Middle East and LAC by 2022.
  • To develop advocacy initiatives that amplify the demands for inclusive climate change actions, specifically targeting vulnerable groups in the focused regions by December 2022.
  • To generate evidence to support climate change advocacy actions in the target regions y December

 

2. Documenting voices of vulnerable populations and communities for COP27

Documenting voices of the vulnerable populations and communities for COP27 is one of the activities of this project. This activity is expected to contribute to the realization of the objectives and the goal of the project. The objective of the activity is to shed light on the causes and the injustice of climate change, showcasing the real issues and challenges of vulnerable communities (especially women) and using the same evidence to demand/advocate for change.  Through this activity, the voices of the local populations and communities and the climate change impacts they suffer will be projected at COP27 in Egypt.

 

  1. The consultancy

WEP is seeking the services of a professional media consultant to support the realization of the above project activity: “Documenting voices of the vulnerable populations and communities for COP27.” The media consultant is expected to produce a high quality video documentary that sheds light on the causes and the injustice of climate change, showcasing the real issues and challenges of vulnerable communities (especially women).

 

Tasks to be undertaken by the media consultant

The media consultant is expected to undertake the following tasks:

  1. Conduct field visits to local communities agreed with WEP.
  2. Organize focus group discussions and interviews with members of identified local communities.
  3. Conduct interviews with relevant experts, policy makers and other individuals to form part of the documentary.
  4. Document on video and in pictures, impacts of climate change to the physical environment of these local communities as well as the impacts on livelihood, economic, social and cultural activities.
  5. Write a script to be used for the documentary
  6. Produce a high quality video documentary that showcases the above impacts.

  1. Eligibility

To apply for this opportunity, the media organization must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • Must be a registered media organization
  • Must have previous experience documenting environmental or related issues.
  • Must show evidence of up to date tax payment to the government and evidence of compliance with other government regulations
  • Must demonstrate experience of community engagement and knowledge of environmental issues.

 

  1. Method of application

Eligible media organizations should send their application to info@wepnigeria.net on or before 17th October 2022. The application should contain: organization’s relevant experience, organizational capacity to deliver on the assignment and the strategy to be employed by the organization to deliver this assignment. The organization should also share samples of its previous works that are similar to this assignment. Submit a budget estimate that will support the execution of this assignment.
