Transforming Her Resilience, Inclusion and Value in Economies (THRIVE)
The Transforming Her Resilience, Inclusion and Value in Economies (THRIVE) project is a 48-month initiative implemented by the Women Environmental Programme (WEP). As a core part of the Christian Aid Women Transforming Economies Signature Programme in Nigeria, THRIVE is dedicated to shifting power, relationships, and practices within local economic systems to ensure women can access safe, dignified, and resilient economic opportunities.
Geographical Focus
The project is being implemented in Nasarawa Eggon LGA, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. Specific communities within this region are selected based on rigorous gender, disability, and market-access screenings to ensure we reach those most in need.
The Challenge
Local economic systems are often structured in ways that undervalue women’s labor and exclude them from decision-making. Women in Nasarawa Eggon—particularly women with disabilities—face significant barriers, including:
- Limited access to finance and productive assets.
- Unsafe and unequal market conditions.
- The heavy structural burden of unpaid care work.
- A lack of voice in economic governance and policy.
Our Goal
Our ultimate ambition is to achieve gender-just economies where women have greater economic rights, income security, and meaningful influence over the policies and markets that shape their lives.
Our Approach
THRIVE utilizes an integrated, gender-transformative model focused on four key areas:
- Evidence for Change: Generating shared evidence on structural barriers like unpaid care and disability exclusion to influence inclusive policy.
- Enterprise & Skills: Providing coaching for MSMEs, entrepreneurship training, and digital skills to young women and women with disabilities.
- Financial & Market Access: Strengthening VSLAs, unlocking capital through financial institutions, and facilitating direct linkages to profitable markets.
- Climate Resilience: Supporting women farmers to diversify into climate-resilient livelihoods such as poultry, apiculture, and dry-season gardening.
Who We Reach
The project directly supports 300 women, including:
- Women-led MSMEs and aspiring entrepreneurs.
- Women farmers and agro-processors.
- Women with disabilities.
THRIVE is funded by Christian Aid and implemented in close collaboration with Women’s Rights Organisations (WROs), local policymakers, financial institutions, and community leaders.
